The Dream '65 Reverb Amplifier from Universal Audio is a lovely amp-in-a-box pedal that summons forth the smooth, creamy tones of that '60s Californian tone featuring every aspect compacted down into one footpedal.

Amp in a box tech has come a very long way since its inception, with cabinet Impulse Responses, or IRs, sounding extremely close to the real thing. These pedals from UA come with three built-in cabinet sims along with additional cabs available through the phone app. The app, via Bluetooth connection, allows for preset building, more customization options, and other features not found entirely on the pedal to keep pedal usage simple and streamlined. This lets the pedal stand on its own with the essential controls so it can be used independently without the app.

Essential controls like an Input and Output Volume. Low and High Frequency Controls are present, along with importantly distinct ones. The reverb control is where the magic is, emulating the classic tube-powered spring reverb found on the original. Boost acts as a nice way to drive the preamp, allowing for nice, gritty breakup that sounds perfect for blues licks or solo chops. Flipping the middle selector to [Alt] accesses the Vibrato controls, intensity and speed, finishing off the final characteristic of this '60s legend. 

Three cabs are available built into the pedal, with 3 more included in the app. Designed from notable mods done by players over the years, the leftmost switch features two: Lead and the D-Tex. The Lead Mod removes the bright cap so when boosted the sound is warmer and has more midrange, cutting in the mix better. The D-Tex, also known as the Stevie Ray Vaughn Mod, increases midrange and a significant amount of gain from the preamp stage. Overall, an extremely comprehensive pedal that includes that revered '60s sound, noting all of the history that made it so great.
